Overview
KDG Surfacing was commissioned to install approximately 500m² of new footpaths at All Saints Church in Little Shelford, Cambridge. The project required a careful balance of durability, aesthetics, and environmental sensitivity, ensuring the footpaths complemented the historic surroundings while remaining practical and long-lasting.
With several Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) in place, we had to take special care during excavation and installation to protect the natural landscape while delivering a high-quality, sustainable surfacing solution.
Scope of Work
- Full excavation to prepare the ground for a stable and long-lasting surface.
- Tree preservation measures were implemented to protect trees under Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs).
- Treated timber edging installed for structure and definition.
- Porous tarmac laid to allow for natural drainage, with a natural resin chip rolled in to enhance the appearance and blend with the church’s surroundings.
Results
The newly installed footpaths provide safe, accessible, and long-lasting walkways for visitors to All Saints Church. By using a porous tarmac and natural resin chip finish, we ensured that the paths:
✔ Blend harmoniously with the historic setting, maintaining the church’s traditional charm.
✔ Improve accessibility for pedestrians, including those with mobility challenges.
✔ Are environmentally friendly, with proper water drainage and minimal impact on surrounding trees.
✔ Require low maintenance, ensuring longevity with minimal upkeep.
At KDG Surfacing, we specialize in high-quality, durable, and aesthetically pleasing surfacing solutions that respect the unique requirements of each project. Whether working on heritage sites, commercial spaces, or private properties, we take pride in delivering expert craftsmanship and long-lasting results.
